One insight
The soil on one hectare of woodland can store around two million liters of water. In the top 10cm alone, up to 50l of rainwater can be retained on 1m2 of forest floor. In one hour, between 60-75l of water can seep away on 1m2 of forest floor. On a comparable lawn area, it is only around 20l.
One nudge
To reduce energy consumption, the United States government sent letters to those who consumed a lot of electricity suggesting that their neighbors used less. This reduced their consumption. A Harvard Business Review study showed that your belief in what your neighbors care about significantly impacts your decision making. Choose your neighbors - or peers, teammates, spouse etc. - wisely.
